Specifying an architectural project’s size, features, materials, installation techniques, standards, and structural, mechanical, electrical, and landscaping components, construction drawings serve as project manuals for contractors, builders, tradesmen, and all other professionals involved in the construction phase.
Being able to read and understand construction documents, including floor plans, site plans, specifications and project requirements, are skills that cannot be done away with, if one’s aim is to run a successful construction firm. The manifold benefits, which include reducing rework and preventing cost and schedule overruns, are conducive to project efficiency and consistently meeting deadlines, budget needs, and specifications.
Through Zitro’s in-person, 20-hour / 4 session plan reading course you will harness the skills you’ll need to fully understand and accurately interpret construction drawings, whether you are an early-career or seasoned construction professional. All sessions are in-person and are focused on residential and light commercial construction.
This 20-hour / 4-session, hands-on course encompasses the following residential and light commercial areas:
Residential and light commercial floor plans.
Residential and light commercial site plans.
Identifying and understanding common symbols, notations and abbreviations.
Specifications, schedules and their use, terms and nomenclature.
Elevations, sectionals, and details.
Wood frame construction.
Landscape, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC site plans.
Field math calculations.
Understanding building codes.
Digital and new print reading technology.
Instructional Method:
Full sets of construction project documents are provided in class.
Group and individual class exercises.
Assignments.
Quizzes and final test.
