Like other states, Maryland has made contracting within the home improvement sector a licensed occupation. As such, it requires any individual or business selling and/or performing home improvements to be licensed by the State’s Home Improvement Commission.
To be eligible for a Home Improvement Contractor and/or Salesperson license any individual must pass an exam that tests applicants on the laws they must comply with when selling and entering into home improvement contracts, and when operating a construction business. Our Maryland Home Improvement course is designed to give those aspiring to become licensed contractors full command of the home improvement law and of other regulations related to the construction contracting business, as well as to prepare them to pass the required exam.As a requisite, you must pass a 58 question exam about the home improvement law and other related regulations.

Having a Home Improvement general contractor’s license gives the contractor a competitive advantage over unlicensed contractors. It shows a legitimate, trustworthy, and professional business on the eyes of the clients, the government, as well as their competitors.
To sell a home at a proper market value a homeowner should only hire a Licensed Home Improvement Contractor for any work done to their home or property.
Home improvements completed by unlicensed contractors are not accepted or validated by most Appraisers, which can significantly hurt your property value or even prevent you from getting the return on your investment.
Licensed contractors are not limited to clients who want to pay little or who may even try to take advantage of the fact that they are hiring someone unlicensed. They have unbounded opportunities to reach a larger pool of clients.
